I can’t believe we are already knocking on the door of 2018! This past year has been filled with some big things in my life (first house, new job, etc.) and I am looking forward to 2018 to hopefully have a little more routine. Although, I seem to say that every year. 🙂 On the blog, I’m going to be sharing some of my lists for the best from 2017 in a blog countdown series.
First up on the Cohen Places Countdown: Best New Restaurants & Bars. Here in Columbus, we had some fantastic restaurants and bars open up this past year. Below are my top 5 favorites, ranked:
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have gleaned that I am a sour beer lover. Sours are iffy for people. You either hate them or love them and I happen to love them. Haven’t tried one yet? Pretentious Barrel House gives you the chance! And they are determined to change people’s perceptions of what a sour tastes like. I am so excited this spot has opened up and is increasing the sour options and variety here in Columbus, Ohio.
Grandview Cafe had been closed for what felt like forever. Every time I was on Grandview Ave I would look at it, hoping to see signs of re-opening. Well this year it finally opened it’s doors again to the public and it did not disappoint. First of all, it is HUGE. Tons of seating inside, upstairs and outside to choose from. Plus, their take on bar/food pub is delicious. My favorite is without a doubt the White BBQ chicken wings and the mac n cheese (with extra bacon).
I recently had the opportunity to try out Tastings for a blogger event and was blown away. I had heard of Tastings opening in the Short North this year, but hadn’t made it over yet. What a blast. Tastings has normal offerings like a full menu, glasses of wine, etc….but their innovative tasting stations are what makes this experience truly unique. The tasting stations allow you to try wines from all over the world, in different ounce increments. Just hit a button and you’re off on a wine adventure! I can’t wait to go back and continue to sample.
Kicking off 2017 in style, Watershed Kitchen and Bar opened and has been a favorite spot when I want to impress guests. The atmosphere and interior decor couldn’t be better, and the creativity in their cocktails makes going here such a treat. If you go for happy hour, I recommend ordering their fingerling potatoes to munch on while you sip on your amazing cocktail.
The number one spot on this list HAS to go to Smoked on High. Opening this past summer, Smoked on High has been my favorite new restaurant. As a Texan, I can admit I am a little picky about my BBQ. Smoked on High not only met my expectations, but far surpassed them. Their ribs, brisket and pulled pork are to die for and their sauces are equally as good. If you haven’t been yet…what are you waiting for??
What’s your favorite new restaurant from the past year?
